AT UPS : Universal School is a versatile house full of academic and co-curricular activities . When there is an academic session it appears a pin-drop silence all around . All students as well teachers focus on the teaching and learning process with full interest and complete concentration .To ease the unwanted burden upon the delicate minds of the students, teachers give them short type written tests in routine to ensure the final exams’ preparation in the beginning of the new session. Such tests are counter checked by the section in-charges and even acknowledged by the parents of the students. UPS teaching faculty and learning students become used to such daily routine that they take and give the tests as their regular source to garner knowledge more and more .

UPS management does its best to keep away the students from the boredom of regular study periods , an activity period is also adjusted in the morning in which maximum number of students take part in the various artistic activities like Bhangra, Gidhha , Folk dance of various states, painting , Choreographies , Marshal Arts, Skits, Stage performers etc . At that time UPS appears a centre of cultural activities . In this way ,our system strives to kill two birds with one stone .Firstly our students are provided entertaining opportunities in the starting of the day , secondly they are prepared for the annual function ‘Humble Show’ which is the star attraction activity of the school celebrated every year. The school students are motivated to perform the social services through NSS . Moreover tour programme is also organised . Our students have already enjoyed the tour of Shimla, Kullu, Manali, Mosurrie , Manikaran & Science city Jalandhar along with religious places .

UPS TALENT HUNT COMPETITION

Talent competition is an open competition for all interested students which conducted in the beginning of the session. Any student can participate in any event to expose and show his/her hidden talent according to his/her choice. Talent Hunt competition helps the teachers to select the students for the items they are entrusted to prepare throughout the year. They do their best to improve the performance of the selected students at advance level. The winners of Talent Hunt Competition are honoured with catchy prizes by the school Chairman ,Principal .

UPS CO-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

The co-curricular activities such as painting, writing, reading, solo & group dance , Bhangra, Gidhha, Singing, Kavishrai, GK, Poem Recitation , Mehndi , Rangoli, Gatka etc are conducted and competed among all junior and senior houses of UPS. The maximum number of students avail this platform to demonstrate their passionate performance. A cut throat competition is thrown among the students by their rival competitors. All students are provided ample opportunities to register their worth. All UPS teachers put their sincere efforts to ensure the victory of their own houses. The victorious students are given away the prizes by the school authorities.

UPS DEBATE COMPETITION

The debate competition is the best platform to eradicate the unwanted hesitation of the students. The debate competition is conducted among all houses. The desirous and interested students are invited at house level and the best ones are selected to compete further with their rival houses. The students will have to go through many levels to reach on the top levels. There are hot discussions regarding the burning topics related with social, economic, political and others core issues at state, national and international levels . Undoubtedly it is a cut-throat competition among the all debaters. The winner students are honoured by the school Principal in the end.

UPS SUPER BRAINY

Super Brainy is one of the toughest competitions among the most intellectuals students indicatesk to neck competition. Due to hair line difference the judges find it very difficult to adjudge the best student as in the end all extra-ordinary students’ performance is almost same. The least difference is there between student to student. As a matter of fact free and fair judgement prevails and ultimately the most deserving student conquers the battlefield of knowledge. The best student who is adjudged the jury of experts is awarded the title and badge of Super Brainy by Principal which is used by the winner throughout the year.

UPS SPOKEN ENGLISH COMPETITION

Being rural area, the management of UPS is putting its sincerest effort to remove the hesitation of spoken English. In this competition the word-power, Vocabulary and Pronunciation of the competing students is adjudged very minutely and attentively. Moreover the non-participants are motivated by the participating students. It is said rightly that one who hesitates is last so UPS teachers are giving proper guidance to their students to overcome this problem which becomes the greatest obstacle in the way of our progress at international level. The best speakers are honoured by the school authorities.

UPS TEACHERS DAY

As teacher is the mother of all professions and known as nation builder. On 5th Sept, every year teacher day is celebrated with due due honours and regards. The students allocate the different activities to their teachers in which teachers have to participate enthusiastically. Some of those items are very funny. When the teachers act those funny items all students enjoy the entertainment in abundance with the vein of laughter. The teachers too feel good to get rid of stress of regular teaching and realize the problems of students doing so. In the end the teachers who are the winners of different activities are honoured by the school chairman and principal.

UPS OCTO-FEST

Octo-Fest is the best platform for the students to convert their theoretical knowledge into practical knowledge. About more than 800 students participate in Octo-Fest displaying different items in their erected stalls demonstrating various items and materials related with their favourite topics. The different experts of different subjects are invited by the school authorities to adjudge of performance of the students. The parents of all students are also invited cordially to watch the practical activities of their children themselves . The best performers are garlanded with Gold, Silver & Bronze medals by the school Chairman, Principal & Jury Members.

UPS CHILDREN & SPORTS DAY

UPS Children & Sports day is celebrated with great enthusiasm and fanfare. The teachers are presented rosy petals by the tiny-tots of UPS. Right from primary section to senior-secondary section, maximum numbers of students take part in different games by the school DPEs with the help of class in-charges. The state and national level sports personalities are invited to witness the occasion . The games are started with flame of victory along with the marching of participating sportsmen. UPS band is also demonstrated which is the star of attraction. All teachers do their best to show the best performance of the respective classes. Even the cultural items are also performed. All houses participate to ensure their final victory. On this day the best house is declared. The Best House is awarded with the Over-all trophy. The winner students are garlanded by Gold, Silver & Bronze medals by the Chief Guest, School Chairman and Principal.

UPS HUMBLE SHOW & ANNUAL PRIZE DISTRIBUTION FUNCTION

UPS Humble Show & Annual Prize Distribution Function is the main attraction for the parents of Talwandi Sabo. It is celebrated every year before the winter break. Its preparation has been started right since the beginning of the session. A special activity period is added in the school time table. Accordingly the teachers start to prepare their allocated students for the final performance in an annual function. Regular rehearsals are made and checked by school Chairman, Principal & Vice-Principal. One of the most prominent and eminent educational personality is invited to be the Chief Guest along with the successful student of UPS to act as a special guest . Thousand and thousand parents enjoy the Humble Show with keen interest and lively spirit. More importantly the whole function from the starting to the end is handled by the students themselves. About ‘1000’ students participate in the function energetically & enthusiastically . In the end all participating students are given away the prizes by the Chief Guest and other dignitaries. .

UPS LOHRI CELEBRATIONS

UPS last function of the year is Lohri which is celebrated among all teachers and students with the warmth of the fire. First of all bonfire is lit by the school chairman along with all staff members. The puffed rice and popcorn are thrown into fire.The recreational and cultural activities are performed by the teachers and students. The importance about the girl child is high-lighted in the speech of the stage-secretary. The groundnuts and sweets are distributed among the students . All teachers and students enjoy the Lohri festival with much enjoyment and humorously . Songs related with the festival are sung by the teachers and the students .

UPS Gidhha

Gidhha is the best folk dance of women of Punjab which is performed during the marriage festivals celebrated in Punjab. It is an energetic, thrilling and entertaining performance performed with the tapping of hands and thudding of feet in a monotonous way. The girls feel highly graceful and elated. The different lyrics presenting Punjabi culture are spoken and sung in a comical way. The girls play their performance with the rythemicly beat of drum . They present the marriage scene successfully during their performance. The UPS Gidhha is acknowledged everywhere there they dance.

UPS BHANGRA

The main folk dance of Punjab known as Bhangra is world famous which can be seen in the every nook and corner of the world. Since last more than two decades UPS Bhangra performers are bringing the laurels to their institution playing an extraordinary performance. The performers when enter on the stage with colourful dresses, turbans, colourful long sticks in their hands and other musical instruments keep the audience on its toes. Everyone present is anxious to watch Bhangra performance . UPS has junior and senior Bhangra performers. It speaks volumes of their energy, activeness, stamina, up-downs and versatile performances. When they start Bhangra the audience is ignited with lively spirit. Since last many years UPS Bhangra is the tongue of the town.

SIKH MARSHAL ART (GATKA)

The Sikh Marshal Art is known as Gatka. It is the true replica of Khalsa created by the tenth master of Sikh community Guru Gobind Singh ji . Its performance compels the enemies to think to put their fingers into their mouth. The use of different weapons are displayed on the stage by the performers. The unusual appearance of all performers fascinates the audience and remind the beloved ones of Guru Gobind Singh ji. Due to the unique identification of Sikhs their identity is different among the millions . UPS Gatka performers leave no any stone to remind the sacrifices made by Sikh martyrs . UPS Gatka is one of the most favourite items of the function for the audience.

UPS BAND

UPS Band is an extra-ordinary identification of the institution. In this item both girls and boys participate in the demonstration of Band. They are trained like army men whose marching parade is world famous . They use all band instruments like drums, enchanters , flutes and side drums etc. UPS students are in proper uniform when they show their performance. When they march in different files with different styles everybody is filled with joy. Their coordination and stunning actions make all feel happy. Mostly the UPS band is used during the special function or in Sports Day and Annual Function

UPS GK COMPETITION

UPS Chairman primarily focuses on the basic knowledge of the students. To cope up basic knowledge General Knowledge is the most important in the life of students. To achieve this target , all houses are invited time to time to face GK Competitions. Hence GK competitions are conducted every month. The students are provided the required material in advance. There is hard competition among all houses. The house-in-charges alongwith House Captain and House Mistress do their best to be best in GK . Accordingly UPS students feel easy to clear the test of their bright career.
